It is the most enjoyable, the most elegant and the most memorable climb you will ever take in the Country of the island, without even complaining. If you look at Gialos, some of the 2,500 neoclassicals of the island will leave you dumb. Kali Strata, so called the stone wide stairs, has always been the main artery of the island, the connection between Gialos and Chora, which the locals call it a simple and unparalleled Chorio.
The densely-built neoclassical houses, the blooming bougainvilleas, the imposing, mansion doors, the open windows that let you steal pictures of the everyday life of the Symians make a setting made out of old Greek cinema. On the east side, the bay of Disalon with the homonymous chapel of St. George is opened in the background. The island's most impressive coastline is nestled in one of the most idyllic landscapes of island Greece. The imposing stone tiles are sinking vertically into the sea, while the deep blue waters, as we approach the coast, become green, they create a unique color spectacle.
Beautiful beach is also the pebbly Nanou with a few umbrellas and a old fashioned tavern! Access by boat!
You can reach this popular beach either with your own boat as it is not far from the harbor, or with the boat that runs daily. It has sun loungers and umbrellas that you can rent as well as a simple beach bar with the necessary! Tip: Swim to the small island where the homonymous chapel is located!
Go to Agios Nikolaos the beautiful beach. Dive in the blue waters and lie down on the sandy beach enjoying the natural shade created by the trees.
One of the most popular settlements in Symi with a lot of tourist traffic is Emporios or Nimborios with golden sand and crystal clear waters, a real paradise during the summer months.

Heading to the north, after the Kefalos peninsula, the bay of Agios Vassilios opens, in the heart of which is the homonymous chapel beside the crystal clear waters. A deserted beach with pebbles, where peaks and cypress trees descend, ideal for those who seek quietness and complete contact with nature.
The picturesque harbor of Agios Emilianos was named after the homonymous white chapel built on the small island, which is connected to the land by a narrow stone path, only a few meters long, creating a very good shelter when strong winds blow.
Beautiful small beach in the south of the island. It is accessible by car, motorbike or for adventure enthusiasts, with great hiking. It has a new tavern where it offers excellent food. Sun loungers are available on the beach with a great sea for swimming.
From Gialos or Horio there is a good road leading to Pedi, a picturesque cove, to which a valley ends, which gave its name to the settlement. In Pedi there is the parish church of Agios Georgios, Agios Andreas and Agios Thomas, Lefkandios, where the women used to wash clothes and furthermore the chapel of Ai-Nikolas. On the beach there are few ruins from the foundations of the Early Christian basilica.
During summer months, small boats are taking off from Gialos to make day trips to the best beaches of the island or to nearby islands where one can swim. One of the few beaches that is accessible by car is Marathounda. It is located in the homonymous bay, on the southeastern coast of Symi and at a distance of 17 kilometers from the island's Chorio. It is also very close to the Panormitis monastery as it is only 2 km away.
It is worth reaching the southern point of the island to wander to one of the most famous and miraculous monasteries, that of Archangel Michael. In the quiet bay, you can either go by car or take a boat trip. Go to Panormitis Monastery and admire the most important religious point of the island. Enjoy the route to the monastery by passing through cypress and pine trees. Visit the folk and ecclesiastical museum of the monastery and watch the pebbled courtyard with fine geometric patterns.

Another magnificent example of Orthodoxy, where in the basement of the monastery there are unique Byzantine finds but also the miraculous icon of Taxiarch Michael. However, to visit it, you should contact the metropolis of Symi and Father Antonios to open it. It's worthwhile to visit the forest of the area of Kourkouniotis, where eleven presses from the 120 old ones on the island have been restored since Symi had until the 18th century an important tradition in viticulture.
